Coachella is only a week away! If you’re headed to Indio next week, chances are you’re scrambling to find the perfect outfits (check out our suggestions) and preparing yourself with plenty of essentials on hand (the Coachella survival guide is a key reference for this).
But if one thing is for certain, it’s your tunes.
Queue up this playlist before you hit the road and sing along at the top of your lungs! It’s just practice for the real thing.
Whether you’re looking for somewhere to take your kid who’s too frequently bored once school’s out or you’re dreaming of rocking out under the night sky, these summer concerts are money well spent. From acoustic heart-breakers to hip hop storytellers, country superstars to rock legends, there’s a little something for everybody. We can only hope that each is coming to a city near you. With a wide range of musical influences from Dolly Parton to Kanye West, Michael Buble to The Shirelles, we’re taking this time to celebrate moms everywhere with a Mother’s Day playlist. These are strictly sentimental songs dedicated to the women who raised us. Whether she is offering her overlooked wisdom or sewing us a coat out of old rags like Dolly’s mom did, our mothers typically have a way of nurturing out of habit.
So play her these songs as a thank-you. Or, if you’re struggling with last-minute mother’s day gift ideas, feel free to take inspiration from our playlist. Grab a few tracks that connect with you personally, draw up some cover art, and gift her an old-fashioned mixed CD. Hey, it’s better than nothing.
*This playlist was curated with Mom in mind. Happy Mother’s Day. Continue reading
With only two full days until the festival, the Coachella gods are cutting it close, but the set times and stages have just been released for Weekend One!
We’ve filled you in on potential Coachella fashion trends, and given you inspiration with what to wear. We made a list of 10 Must-See Acts that are guaranteed to slay on stage. Your transportation is settled and your hotels are booked. Now, you just need to know the secrets to having the best festival experience ever.
Really, guys, it goes without saying but we need to say it anyway. Temperatures are expected to be in the 90s during Week One, and with all that dancing and grooving you’re going to be doing, your body needs proper hydration. There are refill stations around the fields for CamelBaks, so you might suggest someone in your squad bring one.

March is Women’s History Month, and this upcoming Sunday (March 8) is International Women’s Day. Because of this, you have a built-in excuse to jam to a few songs by some of the greatest female singer-songwriters and female-driven bands. That’s where our playlist comes in.
There are songs about what’s wrong with society’s norms (“Can’t Hold Us Down,” “Sex Yeah”), songs about being as strong as the boys (“Do It Like A Dude,” “Running with the Boys”), and songs about loving yourself, both literally (“Body of My Own”) and figuratively (“Reflection”). Really, it’s a hodgepodge of everything, all in the name of empowering women and reinforcing equal rights. From Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé to Rihanna and Miley Cyrus, this playlist is nearly two hours of women who rock. Listen for yourself…
The dry desert air, the sun beaming against the metal stage rigging, you look up into the open blue skies to nowhere land. But softly in the distance, you hear a band tuning up their guitars and the steady roar of the crowd anticipating those first notes. It may only be January, but dreams of Coachella are already floating in our heads. With the 2015 lineup announced, everyone’s buzzing with excitement. If you were lucky enough to score a pass during the hectic on sale yesterday, you should start preparing now.
In particular, you need to start listening to confirmed acts and prioritize which you want to see most. Every year, there’s bound to be a schedule conflict between two artists where you’re left thinking, “Which band do I see?!” If it comes down to that, here are ten acts* who you should just say yes to.
*We figured you already know how awesome the headliners are, so this list focuses on those artists in smaller print on the lineup.
Canadian singer Lights creates songs with booming beats and celestial synths. Drawing inspiration from video games and the sci-fi culture, Lights has released three studio albums so far and each is a dream pop masterpiece. On the stage, she’s a force to be reckoned with, alternating between keyboard jam sessions, guitar riffs, and ear-piercing vocals you’ll gladly drown in.
The glittering sequins on your dress, the confetti scattered across the carpet, the sound of champagne bottles uncorking. There’s so much to take in on New Year’s Eve. So why not let us be the DJ? If you’re throwing an NYE bash of your own, we’ve compiled the perfect party mix made up of (mostly) current jams that everyone can dance to or at least slowly groove along to. These are the songs you’re going to remember as 2014 fades away and 2015 sparkles into view. From Nicki Minaj and Selena Gomez to Charli XCX and Ed Sheeran, this hour-long playlist is chock-full of songs from last year’s biggest breakout stars. So, go ahead, press play and let the sounds billow through your household. And when your music guru friend asks if you chose the songs, you can pretend you made the playlist yourself. We won’t tell anyone.
