The Right Shoes for 4th of July Parties!

red-white-blue-flip-flops

Independence Day is just around the corner and there’s probably tons of party planning happening right now! Family and friends will be coming in from out of town, barbecue grills are getting ready, and parades are being perfected. With all the preparation in the works, don’t forget about preparing your outfit! More specifically, make sure your footwear can handle the day. Here are some tips in choosing the right shoes for the right kind of 4th of July party!

Beach Fun

In SoCal, you can guarantee that the beaches are going to be packed for the 4th of July weekend. For the beach, choices are usually narrowed down to flip flops, sandals, or going barefoot. However, if you’re a non-beach regular, don’t feel like you have to be barefoot. Even though the weather may be gloriously hot and the water may be refreshingly cold, non-beach goers often forget about the sand. First of all, the sand can hold a lot of heat. Second, depending on how close you are to the water, the sand is usually very soft. Basically, that means you’re going to get one heck of a leg work out. Simple flip flops or flat sandals will help you beat the heat and move around a little easier. Wear sneakers if you must, just be willing to deal with them getting a little sand filled.

Outdoor Picnic

People set up in large parks so that there’s plenty of room for the food and the games. This is not a time to wear delicate materials! For example, we love suede, but they are a little high maintenance and you’ll remember those stains for the rest of your life. We suggest sticking to footwear like sneakers or boots crafted in easy-wearing materials. Additionally, choose something that protects the greater surface of your feet. There may be some prickly grass or overly affectionate mosquitoes out there. For cool and casual sneakers, check out our Lacoste selection for men, women, and kids! Ladies, if you must wear heels, at least opt for wedges. They handle soft ground much better and won’t get stuck in it. They only shoe that should stab the earth are cleats, not pumps!

Fancy Soirée

Some people just like parties to be a little fancy regardless of the occasion! Even if you’re wearing a formal dress or suit, this is a time to be festive! It’s the perfect time to wear bold footwear and accessories. Even if your outfit is mostly made up of a dark neutral color like black or navy, spice it up with some color. For example, you can still be festive and chic if you wear a solid white ensemble with your shoes and accessories adding the red and blue. You’ll most likely be indoors, so go on ahead and wear those sky heels and stylish oxfords! Need some styling tips? We have some great tips on how to style dresses.

Firework Watching

Maybe you’ll be skipping the hustle and bustle of the parties and skip right to the fireworks show. While there’s no real reason to wear a specific type of shoe, we highly recommend something that has sturdy traction. Whether you’re in a crowded place or a secret location with the best view, you’ll need to be able to move around comfortably. Also, it’ll be night time. Regardless of where you are in the world, the temperature can drastically drop at night. So prepare your feet accordingly! You can’t go wrong with rubber outsoles. Sneakers are the obvious pick, but if you still want to tweak your style, try out some boat shoes. They are always a summer favorite! We have a great Sperry Top-Sider collection that are stylish, comfortable, and have very durable outsoles.

TwoTen Event Recap

DS_PartyScene

On June 4, 2014, the Two Ten Footwear Foundation held their YP210 (Young Professionals for 210) annual party in New York City. Designer Studio sponsored the event alongside Lacoste and many others! The YP210 Bring Your A-Game Party was a night of fun and entertainment that raised funds for communities within the footwear industry including footwear families that are in a time of need. Such festivities included having drinks with friends, dancing, art sketches, and playing games like beer pong, mini golf, and a giant game of Jenga.

As always, it’s a pleasure to run into the Lacoste Croc!

Shoes: What They Say About You

Shoes aren’t ordinary accessories. Most people consider them to be something that simply complements an outfit. However, we think that these beloved pieces are one of the most expressive items that not only show off your style, but your mood and personality. They are the glue to an outfit, the last piece of the puzzle, the punctuation at the end of a statement. Shoes come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, but here are some examples of what your favorite shoe trends can say about you.

Heels_edited

HEELS: Confidence

Heels look fabulous, are slightly dangerous, and exude confidence. It has little to do with what color they are or which designer you’re wearing, but that it physically changes you. Whether the heel is comfortably low or sky high, you look and feel great in them! You literally rise to the occasion with a few inches added to your height. Your shoulders tend to pull back, your posture straightens, and you wear them with full disclosure that your feet may seriously ache within a few hours.

Wedge_Edited

WEDGE: Go-Getter

It’s no secret that it’s much easier to walk in wedged heels. Why should you have to choose between style and comfort? Wedged heels bridge that gap and allows you to have the best of both worlds. You can make your dressed up attire more casual or style up your casual look. You want it all and wedged heels have it all.

Flats_editedFLATS: Adaptable

Just because these aren’t high and dramatic doesn’t mean that they are boring! They are much more versatile than a pair of heels and can keep up with whatever pace the day throws at you. For example, with a pair of black leather pointed flats you can rush to get that coffee, go through that grueling meeting, and still make it in time for cocktail hour. You don’t hold back, and neither will your flats.

Flip-Flops_editedFLIP FLOPS and SANDALS: Laid back

When you think about flip flops and slip-on shoes, you don’t think about being busy. You think about relaxation: the beach, soaking up the sun, or  just lounging around the house with your cat and a cup of tea. It’s about simplicity, not stress. Here in SoCal, we can’t get enough of them! Some of our favorite picks are actually from Sperry Top-Sider, who are primarily known for boat shoe styles. The free spirit of shoes, flip flops and sandals break away from all the fuss and relish in ease and comfort.

sneakers_editedSNEAKER: Practical
Sneakers have been deemed to be ordinary, but we think otherwise. They embody comfort, style, function, and even have complex technologies manufactured right in. Sneakers are ready for a day of relaxation or a day of non-stop movement. In a moment’s notice you can go from reading a book in a park to a full running sprint in order to pick up your dry cleaning. Minimalist, fashionable, and athletic sneaker styles rule with practicality. It’s the most logical choice for everyday life. Looking for some fresh new picks? Check out our Lacoste collection!

Boots_Edited

BOOTS: Femme Fatale

From heavy rubber treads to the highest stiletto, boots are aggressive. Even more elegant styles in our UGG Australia collection grab a lot of attention. Whether it’s the height of the boot, the amount of lacing, or the style of the heel, boots offer a touch of ferocity to any look. Most boots have this elegance with a tough-as-nails attitude, just like the woman who wears them.

Women’s Shoe Trends for Summer 2014

Summer is just around the corner! The season is all about showing a little more leg, a flirty peek at the shoulders, and flaunting an awesome pedicure. This summer, make sure to stock up on new styles for your shoe collection! Here are some of our favorite shoe style picks for 2014 summer fashion.

What the Cuff?

Cuffed sandals and high heels can sharpen up so many looks. The silhouette is a little less formal and a whole lot of sexy. Although we are thrilled about our new Sperry Top-Sider sandals, the design does the most flattering as a high heel shoe like the Tsubo Triss. It gives you a little extra height, elongates those legs, and adds to the elegance of the overall look . Skinny jeans may be all the rave, but full length pants will disrupt the design. When pairing with pants, try to make sure that the bottom hem doesn’t cover the cuff. We suggest that the hems stop at the top of the cuff or leave at least a 1-inch gap.

Match them with: slim fit clothing, pencil skirts, cropped pants

Show Off Those Booties!

Boot lovers rejoice! Winter may have passed, but that doesn’t mean your boots have to be stowed away. That includes even the coziest of cozy boots, UGG Australia! Instead, switch from knee-high boots to ankle boots. For stylish everyday looks, we recommend boot styles that are designed to have a little room around the ankles. They flatter the calves and can complement anything from skinny jeans to summer dresses. If you want options, find boots with laces. For example, lace-up boots like Dr. Martens allow you to create a tight or slouchy fit. Opt for a low heel or no heel at all for a look that’s comfortable and truly effortless!

Match them with: shorts, fitted bottoms, loose tops, summer dresses

Wonderfully Woven

When summer rolls around, beachy inspired looks are popular even in the city! Woven shoe styles are light, playful, and perfect for everyday wear. Many of them will come in bright colors or in a rich neutral that complement brighter seasonal colors. For example, our woven flats from Rocket Dog are bright and lively, while our Sperry Top-Sider shoes remain a little more classic. The woven texture adds something special to skinny jeans and plays nicely with many other patterns. For instance, the woven lines match with stripes and plaid, while the holes and eyelets complement polka dots, florals, and lace. It’s no wonder that woven styles are a favorite this time of year!

Match them with: printed patterns, solid colors, denim

Get on Point

Even in a plain and solid color, pointed toe flats instantly add drama. The shape is universally flattering for any body type and for any outfit. They look stunning with more formal attire, but still offer a touch of elegance to casual looks. If you want to break away from flip-flops and plain ballet flats, try a pair of pointed flats. They are a wonderful shoe in canvas or linen, but for true versatility leather pointed flats can work with anything from casual denim to a cocktail dress.

Match them with: denim, shorts, dresses

Designer Studio’s El Paso, TX Grand Opening

EP Store

Photo Source: The Fountains at Farah Facebook page

On Saturday, November 23, 2013, Designer Studio celebrated the grand opening of their newest clothing store location in El Paso, TX. The new boutique opened at The Fountains at Farah shopping complex. It is the company’s third location and is bringing the same designer brands and infamous customer service to the El Paso area. To celebrate, Designer Studio had offered 10-50% off of selected items during the day of the grand opening.

The new store is a 3000-square-foot space on the lower level of the complex that faces the restaurants and the central fountain attractions. It features a brand new interior design by Brian Dyches of Atmospheric Experience Design Group/Openeye. Dyches is based in Southern California and has worked on projects for brands like Kate Spade and Lucky Brand Jeans. Designer Studio’s custom interior design is an open concept that features eye-catching details like LED screens, stunning shelving displays, and will also include a large artistic mural.

This is a new multi-brand experience for the El Paso area as Designer Studio personally hand selects merchandise that are exclusive, unique, and fresh. The company is always looking for new styles to add to their footwear and clothing collections. They attend fashion shows and events on a regular basis to bring their customers the most current trends. The Southern California store is known for featuring well established brands, like Lacoste and UGG Australia, alongside upcoming innovations. For example, Designer Studio is one of the first stores to introduce luxury Louis Chevrolet Swiss Watches to the American market. The watches are crafted in Switzerland and are influenced by the same innovator who founded the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. Currently, Designer Studio is featuring a limited edition collection which are sold exclusively online.

In addition to unique shoe and clothing selections, Designer Studio is highly recognized for customer service. Whether customers decide to shop in-store or at www.designerstudiostore.com, they aim to provide a personal and enjoyable shopping experience. In fact, the company was recently reviewed as “Excellent” by StellaService, an independent ratings company that evaluates online retailers. The same company has reviewed other online businesses such as Amazon and Estee Lauder.

Designer Studio, Inc. is a fashion retail store head quartered in San Ysidro, CA and opened its doors to the public in 1995. In 2011, a second store opened in Mercedes, TX and a third in El Paso, TX in 2013. The company is known for featuring an array of designer brands and products for men, women, and kids while providing a personalized shopping experience. Back to School: A “New Shoe” Guide

Row of shoes and boots on a wooden floor

It’s that time again. Summer is coming to an end and it’s that hectic time of back-to-school shopping. While you’ll be stocking up on school supplies, don’t forget about your (or your kids’) feet! Whether it’s the first day of kindergarten or the last semester of college, here are 3 styles you must consider investing in. Remember, quality is priority. You need it to last for at least a school year, right?

Sneakers With Rubber Soles

They’re already a staple of casual wear, but, more importantly, they offer more protection and stability than flip-flops, sandals, flats, or dress shoes. Canvas sneakers and leather sneakers are both common, but it’ll be up to you to decide what suits you best. Canvas is lighter and cheaper, but leather is more durable and a little more expensive.

Make sure you go for rubber soles. They provide grip and can handle all the movement you’ll be putting them though. Remember, shoe laces andstraps can adjust the fit as the shoe stretches out over time and laces can always be replaced.

Athletic Shoes

This is especially important for kids in the K-12 education levels. You have to consider recess, physical education classes, and extra curricular athletics. Unless you are required to purchase specific shoes (cleats, track spikes, dance shoes, etc.) you should invest in a pair of good athletic shoes. There are two main types to consider: running shoes and training shoes. There’s a common misconception that they’re the same thing, but they’re actually designed for different movements. Take a look at some of our Onitsuka Tiger™ shoes.

ot_sak

Onitsuka Tiger™ Men’s Sakurada in White/Navy

The obvious differences will be in the size and the tread on the sole. Running shoes, in general, tend to be a little bulkier because of the extra padding. You’ll find more arch support and a rugged sole that should extend up the toe and heel a bit. They are intended to grip different terrain and are specifically designed for forward motion.

ot_mex66

Onitsuka Tiger™ Men’s Sneakers Mexico 66 in Birch

On the other hand, training shoes tend to be on the slimmer side, have a flatter sole, and a lighter tread. They’re not intended for long distance running, but geared for more repetitive movements like weight training or aerobics.

Dress Shoes

There will always be dressy functions to go to at any age. Most ladies will invest in a few pairs of shoes. Men, on the other hand, may need some convincing. Invest in a good quality shoe that you can wear to multiple occasions in multiple outfits. You don’t have to wear that one pair every single time, but having that go-to option can really save some time if you don’t have much of it. Men may stumble upon the whole “leather sole vs. rubber sole” thing. At this point, it’s all about personal preference and how formal the occasion is. Generally, the consensus for male dress shoes is that rubber isn’t very formal.

lacoste_Loafer

Lacoste® Men’s Concours 2 in Black

Men, if you’re not into dress shoes, opt for some leather loafers or classic leather sneakers. Tip: if you decide to go with sneakers to a dressy occasion, save the crazy colors and funky laces for another day.
