Fashion Confusion

Accessorize correctly

Mixing and matching patterns and prints can certainly be a challenge, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Just look at the women who wear the boho style – they’ve been mixing and matching prints, patterns, and fabrics with abandon for years! If they can do it, and do it well, then so can you.

With a new year upon us, it’s a great time to rethink old trends and embrace new ones. We’re in an age of anything goes, and the same can be said with fashion. The burning question is, “How do I do it and still look stylish?”

Here are a few tips to get you started on this fun, fashionable adventure:

1. Some patterns are so small they look like solids, so don’t be afraid to pair a skirt with tiny dots with floral tights and a block patterned shirt. The eyes can play tricks on us, and in this case, your skirt will look solid enough to pull off the entire outfit.

2. Keep it in the family by staying with the same color scheme throughout. You can boldly mix stripes and dots with abandon, as long as you use a mix of tan, taupe, red, and brown, for example. A brown and red plaid shirt pairs well with a tan blouse accented by a red floral scarf.

3. Don’t just stop with clothing; add accessories of different kinds to complement each other. Wear a mix of bangles and bracelets on one or both arms that range anywhere from leather to lace, and pearls to diamonds. Pairing stretchy pearl bracelets with silver bangles accented and a diamond studded clasp bracelet keeps it all within the color family (silver and white), and adds just the right mix you’re looking for.

So, pair that polka dot skirt with a striped black and white blouse, and break out your favorite floral patterned shawl to wrap around your geometric block patterned dress. You’ll turn heads in all the right ways and make a fashionable statement.

It’s The Month Of Love!

Romantic FashionFebruary is known as the “month of love” because of Valentine’s Day, and we spend days, even weeks, getting ready for it. We start planning what we’re going to do, what we’re going to give to our special someone, and the most important thing, what we’re going to wear!

Everyone has their own style, but there’s still ways to add touches of romance to every look whether it’s punk, trendy, boho, or classic elegance.

Punk: If you like to wear punk, which can range in style from classic to glam to steampunk then your closet is full of dark clothing, studded leather jackets, military style boots, and fingerless leather gloves.

Romance it up! Add a pink or red ruffled lace camisole under the leather jacket, pink mesh tights with a leather mini skirt and boots, or pink fingerless gloves and studded leather jewelry.

Date Night Movie: Enjoy a classic punk movie like Valley Girl or Sid and Nancy, or the more recent What We Do is Secret.

Trendy: If you’re into the latest styles and trends, then your wardrobe consists of color block clothing with flashy embellishments, flared skirts, fur handbags, and high heels made with a mix of fabrics and patterns.

Romance it up! Make your look flirty and romantic by wearing a dress in a color block of reds and pinks, with either a sheer top or bottom block. A flared skirt is romantic by itself, but you can add a ruffled pink or red blouse and kitten heels to complete the look. Complete your look with an adorable handbag trimmed in pink or red fur.

Date Night Movie: Snuggle up with your favorite guy and watch P.S. I Love You, The Notebook, or the timeless Titanic.

Boho: One of the most versatile styles around, boho ranges from boho grunge to boho chic and everything in between. It’s a style that naturally incorporates romance from flowing skirts and dresses to ruffled shirts and lacy accessories.

Romance it up! Add a pink or red lacy camisole to a printed flowered skirt, pair crocheted UGG boots with lacy pink or red tights and a long sweater dress, or wear a delicate lace or ruffled scarf loosely around your neck.

Date Night Movie: Curl up in front of the fire and enjoy an indie favorite like Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding, Happiness Runs, or a rom-com like Wanderlust.

Classic Elegance: If you dress in classic fashion, you prefer plaids, tweeds, slacks, button-down shirts and the like. It’s a timeless look that never goes out of style, and it’s easy to incorporate trendy or romantic touches.

Romance it up! Change out the button-down shirt to one with ruffles and lace or pair the slacks with flats decorated with a bow. Instead of slacks, wear a flared skirt with a peek-a-boo lace hem and heels for a romantic touch. Or, you can add a sheer wrap over a lacy camisole to wear with your favorite slacks and pumps.

Date Night Movie: Classic style calls for classic romantic movies like Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Ghost, or Sleepless in Seattle.

Lov(Posh) is in the Air!

Romance…

Love…

Chocolates…

Roses…

and a

Candlelit Dinner…

The perfect ingredients for a fabulous Valentine’s Day!  It’s just around the corner and people everywhere are getting ready for that special day.  If you’re a guy you’re probably stressing about what to get your girl to show her how much you love her.  If you’re a girl, the one and only thing you’re stressing about is what to wear.

Keeping with the romantic theme isn’t hard if you focus your attention on LovPosh clothing line based out of Los Angeles, CA.  Their goal is selling contemporary clothing to modern women.  With soft, flowing dresses and pastel colors, their clothing has a vintage feel that harkens back to the days of the Roaring ‘20’s, which is a style that’s making its way back to the runways this year.

LovPosh has a beautiful collection of dresses and tops accented with layers, ruffles, and lace. If you’re not the dress wearing type, their tops are a great choice too.   The multi-colored eyelet knit top worn over a pair of jeans is an excellent choice if you’re going for a more casual feel.  Add a pair of strappy high heels or flats and a vintage purse or clutch to finish the look.

For a dressier choice, something like their flowing jersey dress with plenty of layers and ruffles will add just the right touch of flirty flair to your look.  Pair it with a delicate shrug, kitten heels and pearls and you’re ready for a very romantic night out.

Fashion Forward: What’s New for 2012?

As we head into a new year, we also head into new trends in fashion.  Most of the fashion trends from 2011 will be carried over but we will start to see some interesting fashions begin to emerge.  With the popularity of shows like Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men, the styles of the 1920’s and 1960’s are coming back with a vengeance.  We’ve checked out the fashion trends of 2012 and wanted to share them with you.

Women’s Fashion:

The flapper look is in!   style that embodies romance, women’s freedom, independence and individuality all in one.  Expect to see loose-fitting, flowing dresses with embellishments like fringe and beading.  Other elements of this look are strappy high-heels, flapper headbands, and drop waists.

Another trend to look for in 2012 is the mod look of the early 1960’s.  Think short hems, block colors, and masculine flat shoes like penny loafers.  Expect to see a return of short, boyish hairstyles, graphic prints and geometric patterns.  For the fall of 2012, you can expect to see swing capes and coats.

Men’s Fashion:

You can still expect to see the trends of recent years like skinny jeans, baggy jeans, and loose-fitting shirts.  But a new trend is showing up that will be a style of 2012 if not the style of the year.  Relaxed tailoring has been seen on the horizon for men.  With this coming style, the focus is not on relaxed so much as it is on tailoring.

Relaxed in recent years has usually meant street wear – baggy, and casual.  The new trend is not formal but not totally casual either.  Picture a man’s suit that you could wear outside of the office or in a less formal setting.  Expect to see pleated pants, looser-fitting trousers and slacks, and seamless shoulders in men’s coats.
