Now that 2017 is here, we can take a look at 2016 from a safe distant and confidently say the fashion world wasn’t the only one that saw its fair share of highs and lows.
When it came to street style, we saw a surplus of statement-making music merch, off-the-shoulder everything, vintage fit denim, and slip dresses. Even Google noticed the booming bomber jacket craze. Obviously, celebrities paved the way for a number of these trends.
And because anybody can look good with hours in the makeup chair and a stylist on hand for a red carpet appearance, but it takes actual effort and a sense of style to pull yourself together on any average day walking down the street, these stars were the definition of street style inspo for 2016.
10 | Emma Roberts
Emma Roberts continually manages to pull together an everyday look that’s both sophisticated and casual. Whether she’s sporting cropped, frayed jeans or her favorite seasonal velvet shoes, her ensemble feels original and attainable. Street style goals! Continue reading

For fashion’s biggest night of the year, the brightest names in Hollywood pulled out all the stops. The theme “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” inspired many to wear head-to-toe metallics, pile on sequins, and quite literally glow in LED lights. But who stood out or adopted the theme best? Take a look at our choice favorites from this year’s red carpet for the Costume Institute’s annual exhibit.
15. Taylor Swift in Louis Vuitton
Ever since Anna Wintour encouraged Taylor Swift to go edgier on the cover of the latest Vogue, the pop star has been making waves in the fashion world. From her bleached bob to her thick gladiator heels, Swift’s ensemble is daring. Though the mini dress figure with tiered ruffling isn’t our favorite, all the other elements are working in her favor. Got a date for Valentine’s Day? Cuddle up and pop in one of these new, mostly off-beat classics. Before you think you’ve got our list all figured out, remember that we’re only including movies released within the past 10 years (2006 or newer), and therefore this rules out The Notebook (2004) and Love Actually (2003). In 2015, the intersection of high fashion, streetwear, and sneakers birthed a whole load of new trends and fads. Sporty-street looks made way for a grungier, more disheveled vibe. And monochromatic minimalism kept an overriding presence, despite the overuse of “normcore” disappearing with 2014. So, who in the public eye executed these looks best? Below, we’ve ranked the street style kings and queens of Hollywood for 2015.
10 | Kristen Stewart
When the movie and TV stars rolled in to San Diego Comic-Con 2015 this past weekend, they were armed with one very important thing — signature style. We’re talking ensembles that felt flirty and fun, maybe showed a pop of skin or a whole lot of leg. They took risks. They opted for the quirky prints. We felt inspired. Check out our favorite (and not-so-favorite) looks below.
The Met Gala is arguably fashion’s biggest night of the year. It’s the night for the bold risk, the risqué cutouts (we see you, Miley), the abstract art-turned-gowns. It’s at the Met Gala where stylists are allowed to be their most daring. With the world’s top actors, models, pop stars, and fashion icons in attendance, who was the best dressed? Take a look at our choice favorites from this year’s red carpet for the Costume Institute’s “China: Through the Looking Glass” exhibit.
15. Candice Swanepoel in Michael Kors
Michael Kors created some brilliant looks on the red carpet last night, including this gown worn by Victoria’s Secret Angel Candice Swanepoel. The plunging lace number was teamed with a tan clutch, sparkling diamonds at her wrist, and a single white gardenia twisted into the base of her hair bun. In this case, it was her lack of risk that paid off.
Weekend Two of Coachella has officially come to a close. While everyone is still buzzing about Nicki Minaj’s surprise appearance during Drake’s set, we’re taking a look back at the glorious festival fashion that took place over the past two weeks. From floral maxis to super short denim cutoffs, we saw our fair share of modern day hippie couture. And let’s just say some executed the tousled hair-fringed everything combo more effortlessly than others.
We’re talking street style looks that are completely unique. It’s these outfits from the music festival scene that we’re taking inspiration from and incorporating into our spring wardrobes. We could use a dose of boho magic in our lives.
On paper, this look shouldn’t work: Jean bermuda shorts, a triangle bikini top under a suede vest, and snakeskin booties. But it’s her relaxed sort of approach that makes us want to spring for a pair of distressed boyfriend shorts for our spring wardrobes. Possessing an edgy statement necklace is next on our to-do list. Taylor Swift is the spokeswoman for the Spring 2015 Keds campaign, and we think the brand couldn’t have chosen a better fit. She never goes out of style, and neither do these cute little canvas sneakers that have been in fashion since the 1950s. So we started thinking, what if Taylor paired her impeccable daily street style with these classic plimsolls all the time? It became clear, you can style Keds with literally any outfit and still look chic.
Champion Basics in Dark Grey
The verdict: Taylor may have chosen the wrong shoes for the occasion here. Climbing on mossy rocks in heels? We’ll opt for Keds any day of the week. Plus, the grey classics would look oh-so-cute in coordination with her sporty Bill Murray sweater.
How you should style them: Slip into your bathing suit and your fave pair of Keds on a lazy Saturday morning. Layer a comfy sweatshirt and skater skirt on top and start heading for the beach. With the ocean breeze in your hair and cushioned soles at your feet, you just might feel up for a dip in the water.
Celebrities and fashionistas on both coasts are bringing sneakers back for everyday glamour and easy comfort. Leanra Medine and Anna Bulbrook were sporting Lacoste sneakers at this year’s Coachella. Superstars like Gisele Bundchen and Josh Duhamel have been recently photographed sporting their own pairs for high profile daytime events and casual evenings out.
With a huge range of colors and styles, Lacoste sneakers are a great way to stay on trend, and in comfort!
Rather than just wearing sneakers with gym clothes, consider pairing your sneakers with bright patterned jeans or colorful printed pants. An airy summer cotton sundress or pretty shorts also go well with this trendy but time honored shoe style.
When running after this trend, make sure you take advantage of the Lacoste raffle going on now at Designer Studio Store. With every pair purchased, you are entered to win a second pair free! Just make sure you buy before May 15th.
