Just the word ‘resolution’ incites an uneasy feeling in us. The idea that we all wait for January 1 to begin building better habits is slightly overwhelming. Obviously, we’re not going to completely transform overnight, but it’s the little, more attainable goals that are going to count in the end. So we’re setting some style resolutions for the year that we can gradually begin checking off (we hope).
1. Trust in Dr. Martens.
The lace-up, combat-style boot has been on-trend for a few years now, so if you haven’t tried them out yet, now is the time. They’re the unexpected, goes-with-everything shoe choice that will both add edge to your look and protect your feet against practically anything thanks to an acid-proof outsole. Say hello to the perfect road trip companion. // Shop Dr. Martens
2. Try a trend that’s just outside your comfort zone.
This year, we’re banking on grandma trends aplenty, from furry stoles to kitten heels. Especially the latter, which is perfect for all-day wear at work. The low, boxy silhouette and block heel makes them comfortable and easy to walk in. Try them in out-of-the-box colors and fabrics, like a pale suede or glossy cherry. Richly textured kicks are an easy way to jazz up the jeans-and-blouse formula.
3. Stay stylish, despite the rain.
The wet season is going to creep up on you, and we hate getting caught out in the rain without the proper footwear. And yet, we’ve never been quick to snap up a pair of rain boots when we see them in stores. Blame it on our lack of planning skills, but we’re setting a goal to change our habits. Adorable styles of varying heights from Chooka, Sorel, and TOMS are at the top of our shopping list. // Shop rain boots
4. Find a new shoe to take over your summer footwear.
Because summer is all about basking in the sun and feel-good vibes, we plan on slipping into Soludos espadrilles. Each shoe features a woven jute braid insole, perfect for trips to the beach or sweltering summers in the city. With such comfortable shoes on your feet, the spirit of summer will seem never-ending. // Shop Soludos
5. Style your skinny jeans in a non-boring way.
We get it: Sometimes you really want the no-fuss look (and feel) of worn-in jeans and a washed-out tee. We’re with you. We simply suggest keeping the denim skinny, choosing a patterned, loose tee, and sliding into statement-making loafers for downtown vibes. Stash your goods in a chic leather bucket bag, and keep any chill away with a long duster coat and pom-pom beanie. You’ll feel like a whole new you.
6. Put Adidas on your radar.
The sneakers that were once mega-popular in the 90s are having a major moment once again. The retro-inspired Stan Smiths and classic Originals Superstars are a street style must-have for supermodels and fashion bloggers alike. Plus, having nice sneakers for everyday use is kind of essential.
7. Take better care of your shoes.
Whether your boots of choice are leather, suede, or sheepskin, the elements can take a toll on just how spic-and-span they look come late January. Don’t let that happen this year. UGG® Australia offers an easy-to-use sheepskin care kit that protects against dirt, eliminates odor, and even removes existing stains. That’s our idea of starting the year off fresh.
8. Shop less at fast fashion retailers, invest in key pieces.
For many, it’s easier said than done, but in the long run, it’s going to pay off. We promise. Rather than springing for frequent and impulsive purchases from brands like H&M, Forever 21, and Zara, we’re setting our goals on high-quality clothing items. As a result, we hope to think more about what we buy and own pieces that we’ll keep in rotation longer than three months.
