Despite heaps of snow and bone-chilling wind, fashion’s most elite crowd flocked to New York over the course of the past week for NYFW 2017, with their street style game still in check. The key to pulling off street style in such weather was clearly choosing a look that was both versatile and cozy. Among showgoers, popular outerwear choices included colorful furs, plaid overcoats, and shearling jackets in a number of variations. Coupled with patent leather pants, denim, or a logo here and there, any girl could take on NYFW 2017.

1. Colorful furs

A statement coat was clearly the most important factor in every street style-worthy look. The easiest way to make that statement? Choose outerwear that was extra furry and super bright. Our favorites featured pretty purples and various shades of green, from powdery pastel to forest.

2. Shiny pants (or coats, shoes, etc.)

Many fashion girls opted for their shiniest garments, from red skinny pants to patent leather booties. Some fashion folks let this eye-catching trend take the spotlight, while others piled on even more textures, prints and colors. Whatever the wardrobe choice, it was obvious that such a subtle, shiny detail instantly added a cool, polished effect to any look.

3. Shearling jackets

As the fashion flock layered on their warmest, most stylish pieces throughout the week, the results were far from frumpy. Specifically, we spotted tons of shearling jackets in a number of cool variations, like the suede duster silhouette, moto-style, all-black or cherry red. With so many unique takes on the trend, it was easily one of the most popular choices.

4. Lots of denim

This American classic came in a wide variety of cuts and colors. Whether acid-washed or frayed at the hems, each girl’s favorite pair of blue jeans found their way to NYFW. But instead of pairing these basic bottoms with a tee, most opted for colorful hoodies, structured turtlenecks, and everything in between. Not to mention, a brightly-hued handbag made for the ultimate accessory.

5. Gucci

The Gucci brand has been synonymous with high quality and glamour since the 1920s, so it came as no surprise that fashion girls jumped at the chance to sport the logo on the streets of New York. Whether it was emblazoned across tees, sweaters, or the classic “double-G” belt buckle, Fashion Week saw its fair share of Gucci-fied looks.

6. Plaid coats

After a few days of trying to brave the freezing rain, most showgoers opted for long, extra-warm overcoats in bold prints like plaid and camouflage. Coming off the hugely hyped bomber jacket and puffy coat trends, this was a refreshing change of pace. The classically rugged pattern played well against softer fabrications, like a flowing maxi dress or bell-sleeved blouse.

7. Political messages

As a surprise to no one, both show designers and attendees used the hot spotlight of NYFW to voice their political opinions. Some took a stance on freedom, others wore tees with feminist mottoes written loud and proud. Pictured above, one stand-out piece came in the form of a color-blocked leather jacket, with “no walls between us” printed across the back.

8. Pink

Dubbed “millennial pink” sometime last year, this pale hue has popped up in nearly every runway show and storefront window. But don’t expect it to go away anytime soon. Among a slew of neutral-toned outerwear, a highlight of pink provided just the right pick-me-up to NYFW street style.

9. Sporty logos

With the athleisure trend still going strong, off-duty models wore an abundance of sporty pieces, especially tees and hoodies featuring logos from athletic brands. The key to pulling this off at NYFW was mixing the sporty items with high-end pieces, like leather moto pants or a statement coat. The end result gave each look a sporty-cool touch.
