Gone are the days when belts were strictly a necessity to keep your pants up. Belts are a fantastic accessory that can add just the right touch to finish off your look. They can be worn with dresses, skirts, jackets, tunics and even fur coats. There are tons of styles to choose from that come in many different varieties of textiles, forms, and original facings.
If you decide to wear a belt, what should you wear? Should you wear a skinny belt, a wide belt, one with rhinestones or fabric? Whether they’re made with leather, fabric, lace, or another material, the options are endless. You can basically get by with just about anything. You can also wear certain belts and belt styles to enhance your figure, or to minimize a feature you don’t particularly like.
Here are some belt options and tips on how to wear them:
If you’re petite, full-figured or both, skinny belts are a great pick for you. They add style by dressing up a cardigan or sweater dress without bulking you up. You can also drape them loosely over your hip at an angle to give the illusion of a longer waist and a leaner figure.
If you’re tall and lean with few curves, a wide belt is the perfect choice to add the illusion of an hourglass figure. If you’re long-waisted, you can shorten the look of it by cinching the belt snugly around your waist. It adds definition and curves, especially in a dress or long tee.
You can make a unique fashion statement with this one small addition to your wardrobe that will turn heads, start a new trend, and add style.
Stripes are a classic trend that never really goes out of style – especially vertical stripes. Added bonus? They’re slimming because they give the illusion that you look thinner than you are, and that’s always a plus in our book. But, what’s the best way to wear them and how do you create a stylish outfit using vertical stripes?
Not to worry! We’ve found a few ways you can wear vertical stripes no matter you’re size or style.
Boldly: We’re not talking thin pinstripes here. The new take on vertical stripes is wide with a mix of contrasting colors. Whether you have a large or small frame, you can pull off this look by pairing a solid shirt and flats or heels with slacks patterned with these ultra-thick vertical stripes.
Body slimming hint: Because the stripes are wide, you can hide larger hips by wearing a jacket or blazer over the shirt that falls mid-hip.
Balancing Act: Yes, wide vertical stripes can conjure up images of the circus, but that’s not the balancing act we’re talking about. Keep your fashion balance with this bold pattern by wearing something less conspicuous, like a shirt with thin vertical stripes paired with a solid colored skirt.
Body slimming hint: Give the illusion of a slim silhouette by wearing the same color tights and shoes (think navy blue skirt, tights, and ankle boots).
Mixing and matching patterns and prints can certainly be a challenge, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done. Just look at the women who wear the boho style – they’ve been mixing and matching prints, patterns, and fabrics with abandon for years! If they can do it, and do it well, then so can you.
With a new year upon us, it’s a great time to rethink old trends and embrace new ones. We’re in an age of anything goes, and the same can be said with fashion. The burning question is, “How do I do it and still look stylish?”
Here are a few tips to get you started on this fun, fashionable adventure:
1. Some patterns are so small they look like solids, so don’t be afraid to pair a skirt with tiny dots with floral tights and a block patterned shirt. The eyes can play tricks on us, and in this case, your skirt will look solid enough to pull off the entire outfit.
2. Keep it in the family by staying with the same color scheme throughout. You can boldly mix stripes and dots with abandon, as long as you use a mix of tan, taupe, red, and brown, for example. A brown and red plaid shirt pairs well with a tan blouse accented by a red floral scarf.
3. Don’t just stop with clothing; add accessories of different kinds to complement each other. Wear a mix of bangles and bracelets on one or both arms that range anywhere from leather to lace, and pearls to diamonds. Pairing stretchy pearl bracelets with silver bangles accented and a diamond studded clasp bracelet keeps it all within the color family (silver and white), and adds just the right mix you’re looking for.
So, pair that polka dot skirt with a striped black and white blouse, and break out your favorite floral patterned shawl to wrap around your geometric block patterned dress. You’ll turn heads in all the right ways and make a fashionable statement.
Lacoste along with GQ and Mercedes Benz hosted a Super Bowl party on February 2nd, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the site of the NFL’s Super Bowl XLVII. The party took place at the Elms Mansion, an old southern style home in the Garden District in the heart of New Orleans. All guests entered on a red carpet and were greeted by girls handing out Lacoste Mardi Gras beads!
Guests celebrated in a lavishly decorated tent complete with many Lacoste activations including a branded tarot card reader and screen printing tee shirt customization station.
VIPs were led inside the mansion to the step and repeat, which included the Lacoste logo, and then escorted to the Lacoste gifting suite which included footwear, apparel, and handbags. A-list celebrities and professional athletes were in attendance and circulated the gifting suite, interacting and taking pictures with Lacoste product. Hayden Panettiere, of the hit TV show Nashville, loved the shoes and said she would change out of her sky high pumps into Lacoste sneakers if she only could! Gossip Girl’s Chase Crawford loved the shoes as well – playing around in the gifting suite dialing and talking into the shoe for the cameras!
One of the many highlights of the evening was the performance by Lil Wayne and music by DJ Jesse Marco.
Other celebrity guests included Kate Upton, Paul McCartney, Hayden Panettiere, and Chace Crawford, along with David Arquette, Matt Bomer, Terry Crews, Victor Cruz, Guy Fieri, Josh Hutcherson, Chris Johnson, Ryan Kwanten, Terrell Owens, Shanell, Ian Somerhalder, Jesse Williams, and more.
Overall, the event was a huge success!
February is known as the “month of love” because of Valentine’s Day, and we spend days, even weeks, getting ready for it. We start planning what we’re going to do, what we’re going to give to our special someone, and the most important thing, what we’re going to wear!
Everyone has their own style, but there’s still ways to add touches of romance to every look whether it’s punk, trendy, boho, or classic elegance.
Punk: If you like to wear punk, which can range in style from classic to glam to steampunk then your closet is full of dark clothing, studded leather jackets, military style boots, and fingerless leather gloves.
Romance it up! Add a pink or red ruffled lace camisole under the leather jacket, pink mesh tights with a leather mini skirt and boots, or pink fingerless gloves and studded leather jewelry.
Date Night Movie: Enjoy a classic punk movie like Valley Girl or Sid and Nancy, or the more recent What We Do is Secret.
Trendy: If you’re into the latest styles and trends, then your wardrobe consists of color block clothing with flashy embellishments, flared skirts, fur handbags, and high heels made with a mix of fabrics and patterns.
Romance it up! Make your look flirty and romantic by wearing a dress in a color block of reds and pinks, with either a sheer top or bottom block. A flared skirt is romantic by itself, but you can add a ruffled pink or red blouse and kitten heels to complete the look. Complete your look with an adorable handbag trimmed in pink or red fur.
Date Night Movie: Snuggle up with your favorite guy and watch P.S. I Love You, The Notebook, or the timeless Titanic.
Boho: One of the most versatile styles around, boho ranges from boho grunge to boho chic and everything in between. It’s a style that naturally incorporates romance from flowing skirts and dresses to ruffled shirts and lacy accessories.
Romance it up! Add a pink or red lacy camisole to a printed flowered skirt, pair crocheted UGG boots with lacy pink or red tights and a long sweater dress, or wear a delicate lace or ruffled scarf loosely around your neck.
Date Night Movie: Curl up in front of the fire and enjoy an indie favorite like Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding, Happiness Runs, or a rom-com like Wanderlust.
Classic Elegance: If you dress in classic fashion, you prefer plaids, tweeds, slacks, button-down shirts and the like. It’s a timeless look that never goes out of style, and it’s easy to incorporate trendy or romantic touches.
Romance it up! Change out the button-down shirt to one with ruffles and lace or pair the slacks with flats decorated with a bow. Instead of slacks, wear a flared skirt with a peek-a-boo lace hem and heels for a romantic touch. Or, you can add a sheer wrap over a lacy camisole to wear with your favorite slacks and pumps.
Date Night Movie: Classic style calls for classic romantic movies like Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Ghost, or Sleepless in Seattle.
