Cowboys and Indians: Put a Little Native America into Your Style

It’s that time of year again when we focus on giving thanks. It’s a tradition that goes back centuries to the pilgrims and Native American Indians who gathered together for what we all know as the “first” Thanksgiving dinner.  In honor of that tradition, we want to pay homage to the American Indian culture by showing you how to incorporate a native style into your wardrobe.

Turquoise is the color of choice, and it shows up in everything from jewelry to shoes and everything in between.  If your style is boho, then you’ve already got a jump on everyone else.  The bohemian style already incorporates touches of Native American colors, patterns, and styles in many ways.  You can wear your hair in braids, or loose with a traditional, colorful headband in a Native American pattern, or feathers clipped in to hang loosely with your flowing locks. Give your look a final touch with a long flowing dress and leather moccasins.

Going to a dinner party and wearing something classy and sophisticated?  Add touches of Native American with turquoise jewelry like earrings, necklaces, rings, and bracelets with silver or gold accents.  Celebrities like Eva Mendez, Meghan Fox, and Hayden Panettiere have all been seen wearing this traditional jewelry at award shows, dinners, and other functions.

The Native American style isn’t just for the girls.  Guys can rock the style too!  Bring this look to life wearing leather or beaded bracelets and wristbands, or take a lesson from Johnny Depp, the ultimate style icon for men, who rocks the look with a rugged western-style hat with Native American bands circling the brim.

Whether your look is boho, chic, or rugged, you can add touches of Native American designs and accessories that pay tribute to a time-honored culture.

Date Night Dilemma: Dinner and a Game

Nothing is more embarrassing than realizing you’re wearing the wrong thing in public.  Wardrobe malfunctions and fashion faux pas happen, but happen less if you’re prepared!  Don’t be the only girl who shows up at a ball game in a fancy dress, or dinner in faded shorts and an old tee.

So, how do you go from dinner to bleachers without missing a beat?  Start with a pair of jeans, and you really can’t go wrong.  With so many options, styles, and washes it’s easy to wear the right pair to a quiet, intimate dinner and still cheer on your favorite team later at the ball park.

Depending on your personal tastes, you can go for an athletic look, a trendy style, or a classic silhouette.  Trendy styles can be anything from boho to edgy, but they all go well with a pair of jeans. Slip into a shirt with ruffled sleeves and add leather accessories for a boho look, or take it to the edge with skinny jeans, a studded leather belt and black knee-high boots.

If you prefer the sporty look, simply pair a soft, feminine tee in your favorite team colors with a straight leg or boot-cut jean in a dark or classic wash. Add comfy loafers or sneakers and you’ll fit right in wherever you go.  You can also go for a classic style by wearing a long-sleeve, button-down shirt over jeans with a cute pair of flats or wedge heels that won’t get stuck in the bleachers.

It’s easy to go from dinner to the ballpark with a few simple wardrobe options.  Worry less about your outfit, and have fun rooting for your favorite team!

How to Dress Your Boyfriend

Boyfriend can’t dress himself? No problem!  Guys have a certain style personality, too.  But sometimes, they need a little help finding it.  Whether they like the athletic look or a more sophisticated style, we’ve got the right fashion for your guy.  We know you want to feel proud when you’re seen with him, and if his latest look is a sloppy t-shirt, torn jeans, and dirty sneakers, then it’s time to kick that style to the curb.

Sporty:

You can’t go wrong with a comfortable pair of jeans and sneakers, and that’s what most guys like to wear.  Help him show off his athletic side in a pair of jeans with either a relaxed or classic fit.  He can choose from a straight leg or a boot cut in either dark denim or a classic denim wash.  The leg openings fall perfectly over a pair of sneakers or boots, and the jeans are comfortable enough to wear to a ball game or sports bar.  Throw on a graphic tee or his favorite team jersey, and he’s all set!

Sophisticated:

Help your guy learn to look his best for a night out on the town, at the office, or anywhere in between.   Classic button down shirts with collars, straight leg jeans, and oxford style shoes make a great style statement.  He can go straight from work to the sports bar, nightclub, or the movies with a few simple changes.  If he’s wearing a button down shirt and tie by day, he can ditch the tie, roll up his sleeves, and slip into a pair of dark denim wash jeans.  He’ll be ready for a fun evening of dining, dancing, or movie-watching in no time.

Trendy:

Does your guy look lost in baggy jeans and tees? Have him slip into skinny jeans, slim-fit shirts, and canvas shoes for a trendy look.  Add a few accessories like a studded leather belt and a leather wristband, and he’s rocking the edgy look. Or, he can take a more relaxed approach with a graphic tee, a long-sleeved undershirt, vest, and slip-on canvas shoes paired with his skinny jeans.

Give Thanks for Accessories! Our Fall 2012 Accessories Report

Fashion trends come and go, but some basics still apply.  The trends for Fall 2012 showcase new twists on old standbys like the oversize weekender bag, boots, and high-heeled shoes.  We’re seeing everything from brushed, polished silver accents to patchwork hides and ipad/laptop portfolios disguised as designer purses. So, how do you match up the new trends with your current wardrobe?  It’s easy, and we’ll show you how to do it!

The Weekender:  With the holidays upon us, many of us are heading out of town to spend a few days with family and friends.  Instead of bringing along a boring suitcase or the same old overnight bag you’ve had since college, show up at Grandma’s house with a brand-new designer weekend bag.  Your options this fall run from black patent leather with handles, exotic animal leather in tans and browns, multi-colored fabric, or white leather with faux fur accents.  The bag pairs well with a winter wardrobe of dark denim jeans, comfy UGG boots, and a stylish peacoat.

Silver Accents:  This fall, the runway took a break from last season’s gold and showed us different ways to incorporate silver into our wardrobe; everything from brushed and polished to sculpted silver made its debut.  The silver accessories adorning the runway ran the gamut from necklaces to collars and even chains.  You can mix and match these silver accessories with trendy options like our Cecico sweater in charcoal and YA Brand long sleeve black dress, or the soft and feminine Umgee embroidered ivory top.

Heading for New Heights: Recent years has seen the popularity of the ankle boot on the runways. But this season, the knee-high boot is making a comeback.  You’ll find tons of options with these boots – from over-the-knee, to wedge heels, stilettos, and more. Many of them showcase accents like studded leather, silver buckles, burnished silver grommets, and even colorful hues of animal hide.  Our bootsrun the range of comfy sheepskin UGG® boots, to suede desert wedges or tomboy boots by TOMS®, and leather riding boots by Lacoste®. Slip them on over skinny jeans, add a sweater, and you’re set for a crisp, fall day!

Mix it up:  A completely innovative and new trend seen on the runways is the “remix” in footwear.  Designers have put together a patchwork of materials, hides, pony hair, and color to introduce a whole new way to put your best foot forward.  Ankle boots, high-heels, platforms and Mary Jane’s were seen sporting interesting mixes of leather, color, and design.  There were mixtures of half black leather and half brown animal hide, brown leather with gold accents and black patent leather toes, platforms in navy blue leather with tortoise shell heel, tongue, and sole, and an eclectic mix of color blocking and suede platforms for a totally retro look.  You’ll want to show these off with dresses, skirts, or skinny jeans this fall.
